Eat to live, don’t live to eat

(NaturalNews) What have the past 100 plus years of scientific research taught us? The teaching has been that the Standard American Diet of high fat, high protein, and highly processed foods has resulted in the majority of death and disease in this country. Despite this adversity, the same research has put forth a dietary change to give us the best chance to heal and stay healthy.

Unfortunately, the constant diet of flesh, dairy and refined grains is like putting kerosene in your gas tank. The result – your body, like your car, will break down.

Let’s say that you are in a family of heart disease. Chances are that you are more likely to experience a heart attack faster than, say, type 2 diabetes despite the fact that both result from ingesting the same types of food.

In fact, there are a variety of diseases that will manifest from this diet and the stress associated with it. Hardening of the arteries, strokes, high blood pressure, obesity, gall bladder disease, gout, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, cancer, bowl and digestive disorders are common occurrences.
If your body, however, is provided with the proper fuel, healing is a reality. If you are diligent, determined, and strong, you can become disease free within several weeks.

Sometimes, the process could take a bit longer if cancer or long standing diseases have been prevalent. Obviously, it would be better to enact a change before you are close to being permanently damaged. If, on the other hand, you are relatively healthy, the changes will come easier.

There are certain foods that need to absolutely be eliminated; nitrate containing meats like ham, hot dogs, sausages, bacon and other cold cuts have to go.

All the meats that you would buy in a supermarket – pork, beef, poultry, and organ meats, which are contaminated with incredibly high illegal levels of ingredients absolutely known to cause birth defects and cancer – have to go as well.

Then there’s the trans-fats – margarine, vegetable shortenings, imitation milk, and GMOs, which are heavily sprayed with Monsanto’s Roundup pesticide, have to bite the dust.

All the canned, bottled and packaged foods with their artificial colorings, artificial preservatives, and artificial flavorings like saccharin, MSG and aspartame, need to be kicked in the butt.

Last but not least, the charcoal-broiled foods, the talc-coated rice, and the brine-pickled products, need to be thrown under a bus.

Then there are foods that should rarely, if ever, be eaten and never if you are ill – range-fed beef, “organically” raised poultry, shellfish, cream, whole milk, creamed cottage cheese, sour cream, ice cream, butter, eggs, mayonnaise, soda, and salt like Morton’s, which should be substituted with Himalayan or real sea salt with no added bleach.

The following should never be eaten more than once a month – low fat yogurt, skim milk, buttermilk, low fat cottage cheese, low fat cheese, white or brown sugar.

Right now you are probably thinking, “What is there left to eat”? Do not despair, the list is endless: avocados, nuts, nut butters, nut milks, seeds and seed spreads, tofu, cold pressed vegetable oils like safflower, sesame, olive and sunflower, wheat germ, molasses, raw honey, maple syrup, carob, dried fruits, fruit smoothies and fresh vegetable juices, whole grains, fresh vegetables, sprouted seeds and beans, lentils, split peas, kidney, white, navy, pinto, black, and garbanzo beans.

But wait, there’s more: whole wheat pita bread, sprouted wheat breads, whole wheat bagels, whole wheat pasta, oatmeal, brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, millet, buckwheat and every fresh vegetable and fruit you can get your hands on, and eaten raw or steamed.

The bottom line is you must read labels. The fewer the ingredients the better and if man made it don’t eat it.

All the recommended foods listed are complete foods. They will supply you with all of the necessary calories, protein, essential amino acids, essential fats, fiber, minerals and vitamins necessary to achieve optimum health.

Your diet can be as simple as some quinoa with steamed vegetable and boiled potatoes spiced with sea salt, garlic, turmeric, cumin, Bragg’s Sprinkle, and nutritional yeast, and you’ll get all you need for
good health.

Eat your fruits fresh and raw. Eating an organic apple with some organic nut butter on it is incredible, nutritious and filling.

If you want to take a walk on the wild side, try a pizza on whole wheat with no cheese and extra vegetables. Brok da mout! (That’s Hawaiian slang for “finger licken good”)

Let’s get real for a moment. It ain’t easy at first. But in time you’ll be healthy, have tons of energy, a new lease on life and be free of doctor bills and prescription drugs.

Trust me, eating for life is way better than living to eat.

Aloha!
